Let the Construction Begin: 180 Fiberhoods Approved
Four days after the Google Fiber rally came to an end, Google has unveiled the 180 fiber hoods that will be getting Google Fiber and when they can expect construction to begin. It is now confirmed that 69 out of 74 KCK fiberhoods made it, and 111 out of 128 KCMO fiberhoods turned green.
Google will waste no time getting started on the construction of Google Fiber in green fiberhoods, but it might take a little to make it to all of them. Hanover Heights in KCK will be the first fiberhood to receive construction, starting in October. It was also the first fiberhood to turn green when the rally began. The first construction sites will be predominantly in KCK, as it was the original city chosen by Google as the city for their experiment. It will then start with KCMO at Crown Center in spring of 2013, and move onto the other KCMO fiberhoods from there.
The nice thing is that people who are pre-registered in green fiberhoods can go ahead and start signing up for Google Fiber. This includes people in green fiberhoods who didn't pre-register previously (They will still have to pay a $10 registration fee, but this goes towards their first bill.) Those looking to sign-up will also be glad to know that Google has added several TV channels to their list of provided channels for their TV packages, including ABC Family, ABC News Now, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, ESPN, ESPN Buzzer Beater, ESPN Classic, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN2, ESPNews, ESPNU, Longhorn Network, Ovation, SOAPnet, TBN, TBN Enlace, Velocity.
Google has listed several fiberhoods in KCK and KCMO who will be getting a second chance in a "future rally" for Google Fiber sometime next year.
In KCK, these fiberhoods are:
- Bryant
- Forest Glen
- Quail Creek
- River Oaks

- Wyandotte Plaza
In KCMO, these fiber hoods are:
- Banneker Elementary
- Historic East-South
- Historic East-North
- Independence Plaza
- Ingleside
- Knoches Park

- Quality Hill
Google has also given a sneak peek at what areas Google Fiber will be expanding to next on their new map that includes:
