Paint the Town Green with new website
The Social Media Club of Kansas City in cooperation with neighbor.ly has launched a website to encourage support and donations for the Google Fiber initiative. Called Paint the Town Green, the website allows donors to contribute toward “turning neighborhoods green” (Google’s term for neighborhoods that have met the minimum requirements to be wired for Google Fiber.) Funds will be used to help neighborhood residents pay the $10 registration fee for Google Fiber and to provide educational materials.
Several economically disadvantaged neighborhoods in both Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo. , have been targeted for assistance. The premise is that network value increases with more participation and that universal connectivity benefits the entire community.
Neighborhood sign ups for Google Fiber end Sept. 9.
