In early November, MBIT Co-Chairs Mike Burke and Ray Daniels asked members to help lead community discussions in each of five topic areas — identifying key partners, issues and priorities — to help determine what the two cities can do to support innovation and take advantage of the opportunities high-speed fiber can bring to each sector.

  • The Entrepreneurship Sector Team, led by Alex Couchonnal McManus, Bill Miller and Jase Wilson, is focusing on how the cities can support small businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs, driving innovation and economic development through the use of high-speed fiber.
  • The Health Care Sector Team, led by Barbara Atkinson and Sandra Lawrence, is engaging leaders from area hospitals, universities and others to discuss the potential for new applications that can use high-speed fiber to enhance health care in the community.
  • The Neighborhood Sector Team, led by Latorua Chinn and Daniel Serda, is looking at ways to help residents throughout both cities — particularly in lower-income neighborhoods — learn about what high-speed fiber can bring to the community and how it can be used to strengthen and support neighborhoods.
  • The Education Sector Team, led by Chris Carroll and Bernard Franklin, is working with education leaders at all levels — early education, K-12 and colleges and universities — to determine how high-speed fiber can benefit students of all ages.
  • The Arts and Culture Sector Team, led by Anthony Magliano, is focused on what high-speed fiber can bring to the arts community.
