Distributed Workplace
As a presenting finalist at the Gigabit Challange, I would like submit the idea of a network of centers strategically located throughout the greater Kansas City area that would support a number of major employers with secure remote offices. These community based centers may be structured under public-private partnerships and would localize job opportunities from a number of employers. Our research shows that a significant number of jobs are knowledge based and that transportation congestion is a sizable problem. Our research also shows that work from home and nomadic working works for some people some of the time but that the majority of employees still lack a model that works for both employer and employee while providing a more permanent impact on congestion and makes communities more sustainable. Distributed workplace is a community model allowing the integration of remote jobs access with remote clinis and distance learning classrooms. It also provides a more resilient and secure approach to emergency preparedness and continuity of operations planning.
